Vineyard and terroir
Buriano comes from a historic grape-growing area on the upper side of the Stielle vineyard. Approximately 2.2 hectares are dedicated to Cabernet Sauvignon. The parcel lies at 550 metres above sea level with north/south exposure. Light, ventilation and elevation encourage long, complex ripening. Its medium-textured soils are rich in rock fragments typical of Alberese terrain and marked by limestone veins. The 15-year-old vines are planted at 5,000 per hectare, trained with spur and cane pruning, and yield an average of 1 kg per vine.
Grapes
100% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the second half of October. Maceration lasts approximately 10–12 days at about 28°C, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 18 months in barriques of various ages, followed by at least six months in stainless steel and one year in bottle.
Technical data
Annual production is approximately 7,000 bottles.
Tasting profile
Ripe red fruit is joined by black pepper and leather. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with enveloping, forceful tannins. A fresh finish adds elegance. The style combines the roundness and breadth associated with a Bordeaux-inspired wine with the minerality and freshness of the Chianti terroir, and is intended for long ageing.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 16°C with game, roasts or mature cheeses.
Label / history
Produced since 1985, Buriano was conceived as a historic Bordeaux-style wine from Cabernet Sauvignon grown high on the Stielle slope.
