Vineyard and terroir

Geremia interprets the character of Monti in Chianti through Bordeaux varieties, with Merlot in the leading role.

Grapes

70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Vinification

In 2020, Merlot was harvested on 16–18 September and Cabernet Sauvignon on 9–10 October. Both varieties fermented for 14 days at 26°C. Merlot then remained on the skins for another 42 days and Cabernet Sauvignon for another 11 days. Bottling took place on 13 June 2023.

Ageing

The general profile describes approximately 24 months in medium-toast Allier oak barriques and 18 months of bottle maturation. For 2020, maturation lasted 26 months in Allier oak barriques (51%) and tonneaux (49%). The wood comprised 6% first-use, 13% second-use, 28% third-use and 53% fourth-use oak. The bottled wine rested in the estate cellar for at least 30 months before release. It was bottled without filtration.

Technical data

2020: 14.82% alcohol, total acidity 6.52 g/L, volatile acidity 0.70 g/L, pH 3.30, residual sugar 0.13 g/L and total dry extract 34.20 g/L. Free sulphur dioxide was 6 mg/L and total sulphur dioxide 38 mg/L. Production comprised 15,348 bottles of 750 mL, 230 magnums and 36 three-litre bottles. Certified organic.

Tasting profile

Intense ruby red with a purple rim. Complex aromas of sour cherry, redcurrant and other wild berries are layered with vanilla, liquorice and chocolate. Powerful and intense but also elegant and balanced, it combines substantial structure and complexity with a soft, velvety texture shaped by rich, fully mature tannins.

Serving and pairing

A long-lived red capable of developing for approximately 15–20 years.
