Vineyard and terroir

The Syrah comes from I Castagni. The variety was first planted in 1991 and initially contributed to the Piastraia blend. Once the vineyard had reached maturity, it became the basis for this varietal bottling.

Grapes

100% Syrah.

Vinification

The selected fruit is harvested in mid-September. Fermentation uses indigenous yeasts and 30% stems in 30 hl cement vessels. The cap is managed through manual punch-downs; open pump-overs are reserved for cases where they are necessary. Harvest timing and maceration length are calibrated to extract soft tannins while bringing forward Syrah’s aromatic richness. Malolactic fermentation occurs in vats, followed by racking into French oak barriques.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 18 months in amphorae and barriques.

Tasting profile

Vinification emphasizes aromatic richness and balanced extraction, with a particular focus on soft tannins and an expressive rendering of Syrah in Bolgheri.

Serving and pairing

The stated ageing potential is 20 years.

Label / history

Syrah was planted in 1991 and was originally used in Piastraia. The first pure Syrah was produced in 2005, after the vineyard had attained full maturity.
