Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie on limestone soils in the Chianti area, between Florence to the north and Siena to the south. The area extends through the provinces of Florence, Siena, Prato, Arezzo, Pistoia and Pisa. Its vineyards produce a larger harvest than those of any other Italian region. The vines are 15 years old on average.
Grapes
The blend contains a small amount of Canaiolo Nero alongside Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes are usually harvested in late August and early September at optimal ripeness. After careful sorting, they undergo temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine ages in oak barrels for at least four months.
Serving and pairing
Pair with cold appetisers, risotto, pasta, roasted or grilled red meat, game—especially venison—or mature cheeses.
Label / history
Chianti was awarded DOCG status in 1984. The wine received the Prague Wine Trophy in 2017.
