Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the producer's own vineyards in Rufina, the best-known of Chianti's seven subzones. The small Rufina area (the text spells it "Rufino") lies on elevated land 500 metres above sea level, east of Florence, on the banks of the Sito River in the foothills of the Apennines. The continental climate brings marked shifts between day and night temperatures, which give the wines expressive tannins and fresh acidity. The vineyards are mainly planted on stony limestone soils with patches of clay, which retains moisture and helps protect the vines during drought.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at optimal ripeness, usually in late August and early September. After careful sorting they are fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine is aged in oak barrels for at least 6 months.
Tasting profile
An elegant wine. Wines of the Rufina area are valued for their exceptional fruit character, elegance, structure and ability to age, with expressive tannins and fresh acidity.
Serving and pairing
Pairs with any meat dish, pasta with meat sauces, and mature cheeses.
