Vineyard and terroir
Crognolo is produced in Central Tuscany from south-facing vineyards at 250 m above sea level. The vines are 30–35 years old, trained to spurred cordon and planted at a spacing of 2 m × 0.75 m. Yields are 7,000–8,000 kg/ha. Its Sangiovese derives from clones of Vigna dell’Impero, the estate’s oldest vineyard, planted in 1935 by Amedeo, Duke of Savoy-Aosta. These selections were propagated in vineyards with stony, galestro-rich soils.
Grapes
Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2019): 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. Sangiovese provides the foundation, while Merlot contributes suppleness, immediacy and colour.
Vinification
Maceration and temperature-controlled fermentation take place over 20 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12–14 months in small barrels, identified on the wine page as used French oak barriques, followed by six months of bottle ageing before release.

Label / history
Crognolo was the estate’s first label, first produced in 1998. Its name comes from the Cornelian cherry, Cornus mas, a wild plant found abundantly on the estate. The wine was conceived as an expression of the territory shaped by innovation and an evolving tradition.
