Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the Poggio al Lupo estate in Maremma. The area's former marshland was reclaimed through aeration, creating vineyard soils containing clay, limestone and marl. The rolling hills lie at 200–300 m and receive abundant sunshine and rainfall, with a light Mediterranean breeze providing cooling.
The estate has 45 ha of vineyards. Its principal vineyard occupies 2.2 ha on the southern side of a hill at 80 m, and its vines average eight years of age.
Vinification
The grapes are selected for quality and harvested entirely by hand. They undergo skin maceration and malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in French oak barrels, followed by six months in bottle.
Label / history
Poggio al Lupo means “Wolf Hill” and takes its name from the Maremma estate where the grapes are grown. Antonio Moretti acquired the estate in 1999.
