Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The selected Sangiovese clones were chosen for their suitability to vineyards in the northwestern part of the Montalcino area.
Grapes
Five Sangiovese clones were selected from 120 vines in 1990, following 20 years of trials.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo two selections: one in the vineyard and another on the sorting table. Maceration and fermentation together last 26 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in French Allier oak barrels, followed by 12 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and at least three years in bottle.
Label / history
Development of Vigneto Poggio Doria began with the clone selection in 1990, followed by a further seven years before the wine reached the intended quality level. Emilia Nardi calls Poggio Doria the estate’s “wine of the sunset,” in contrast to Manachiara, its “wine of the sunrise.” It is produced in limited quantities and only in particularly outstanding vintages; production in 2006 was 3,500 bottles.
