Questo vino

Vineyard and terroir

The wine comes from 5 ha of vineyards in the Assisi DOP zone, within the districts of Assisi and Spello. The vines grow at approximately 400 m above sea level and have an average age of around 15 years. The generally shallow, medium-textured red soil is rich in calcium carbonate and contains abundant skeletal material formed through the dissolution of Monte Subasio limestone.

Grapes

100% Grechetto. The grapes are harvested in early September and transferred immediately to the winery.

Vinification

After destemming, the must remains in contact with the skins for approximately six hours at low temperature. Gentle pressing follows. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at no more than 16°C.

Ageing

The wine matures for several months in bottle before release.

Label / history

The Assisi DOC was established in 1997, affirming the area's viticultural vocation after it had initially been known for extra-virgin olive-oil production. Grechetto is presented as one of Umbria's few indigenous grape varieties and has long been cultivated for structured wines. Sportoletti has produced a varietal Grechetto since the winery's foundation.
