Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a 6 ha vineyard area on the hills of Assisi and Spello, at approximately 400 m above sea level. The vines are around 19–20 years old. The soils are shallow and medium-textured with a sandy tendency, containing highly porous and permeable skeletal material formed through the weathering of marine sandstone bedrock. Yield is 5.5 t/ha.
Grapes
70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.
Vinification
Merlot harvesting begins in the first days of September, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc; the technical sheet summarizes the overall harvest period as the first half of September. The grapes are transported immediately to the cellar and destemmed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vessels, accompanied by regular pump-overs and délestage. Skin contact lasts approximately 15–20 days.
The wine is then transferred to 228 L French oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation is completed. Riccardo Cotarella is the winemaker.
Ageing
The wine matures for approximately 12 months in French oak barriques from Allier, Tronçais and Nevers, followed by 24 months in bottle.

Label / history
Villa Fidelia Rosso was first produced in 1990. Collaboration with Riccardo Cotarella began in 1998 and brought important changes to vineyard management, vinification and the composition of the blend, shaping the wine’s present identity.
The name Villa Fidelia® comes from a monumental nineteenth-century villa approximately 500 m from the estate. The villa holds historical and cultural significance for the town of Spello.
