Vineyard and terroir

The wine originates at San Giuseppe in Montalcino. Nine vineyards extend across 7 hectares and encompass 12 soil types, including galestro, calcite, clay, sand, iron and quartz. Each vineyard is understood as a small cru with a personality that evolves from year to year.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese.

Vinification

Every vineyard is harvested separately by hand into small crates and individually vinified. Once destemmed, the grapes descend by gravity into 30-quintal wooden vats. Nothing is added before, during or after the bunches arrive apart from minimal doses of sulphur dioxide. Cellar work follows the character of the individual vineyard and vintage rather than a standardized protocol.

Ageing

Aged for 45 months in wood and at least 20 months in bottle. The ageing cellar is 14 metres underground, where temperature remains naturally constant. Small barrels constructed from thick wood are preferred.

Technical data

Production comprised 11,747 bottles of 750 ml, 1,204 magnums of 1.5 L and 77 bottles of 3 L.

Tasting profile

The 2015 vintage is defined by silkiness, with complexity expressed through an easy-drinking character.

Serving and pairing

Uncork 20 minutes before tasting and use a Burgundy-shaped glass.

Vintage notes

2015 is titled “La setosità” (Silkiness).

Label / history

The estate’s first Brunello di Montalcino was produced from the 2004 vintage.
