Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from San Giuseppe in Montalcino, where nine vineyards cover 7 hectares. The estate contains 12 soil types—including galestro, calcite, clay, sand, iron and quartz—and regards each vineyard as a small cru with a distinct, vintage-dependent personality.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese.
Vinification
Each vineyard is picked separately by hand into small crates, then vinified and stored in one or more dedicated vats. After destemming, the grapes descend by gravity into 30-quintal wooden vats. Only minimal doses of sulphur dioxide are added. The cellar works without a standardized recipe, allowing each parcel and vintage to determine the wine’s course.
Ageing
Aged for 47 months in wood and at least 42 months in bottle. The underground ageing cellar lies 14 metres below the surface and maintains a naturally constant temperature. Small, thick-staved wooden barrels are preferred.
Technical data
Production comprised 2,014 bottles of 750 ml and 370 magnums of 1.5 L.
Tasting profile
Libero is presented as being free from the rules and definitions of a conventional Rosso.
Serving and pairing
Uncork 20 minutes before tasting and use a Burgundy-shaped glass.
Vintage notes
The wine comes from the forthright 2014 vintage, characterized as simple, direct and good-tempered. Its unusually long élevage distinguishes Libero from the other Rosso di Montalcino expression of the year.
