Vineyard and terroir
Aria belongs to the estate’s practice of composing distinct, vintage-specific masse from its parcels. Fourteen parcels are picked and vinified separately, with pruning, canopy management and harvest timing determined individually. A massa may occasionally represent a single vineyard, but this is not automatic; no parcel composition is specified for Aria. The vineyards are neither fertilized nor irrigated.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese from the estate’s own vineyards and entirely from the vintage declared on the label.
Vinification
The fruit is hand-picked into small crates and destemmed before moving by gravity into 30-quintal wooden vats. Parcels are vinified separately. Minimal sulphur dioxide is the only addition identified during grape reception and vinification. The cellar follows no standardized recipe, allowing decisions to vary with each parcel and vintage.
Ageing
The 2018 Aria remained in wood for 34 months, followed by at least 42 months in bottle. Ageing takes place in a cellar 14 m below ground, where the temperature remains naturally constant; small barrels made from thick wood are generally preferred.
Technical data
The 2018 production comprised 4,287 bottles of 750 ml, 700 magnums of 1,500 ml, 70 bottles of 3,000 ml and 7 bottles of 6,000 ml.
Tasting profile
The 2018 vintage is defined by mellifluous character and airiness.
Serving and pairing
Uncork approximately 20 minutes before tasting and use Burgundy-shaped stemware.
Vintage notes
Beginning with the 2016 vintage, different combinations of parcels have been assembled to emphasize the distinct expressions of each year. Aria is represented by the 2018 vintage, described through the theme L’ariosità (“Airiness”).
