Vineyard and terroir
Bacia is a vintage-specific massa assembled from estate parcels at San Giuseppe. Fourteen parcels are harvested and vinified independently, with vineyard decisions—including pruning, canopy management and picking time—made parcel by parcel. Although a massa can sometimes come from a single vineyard, the exact sites contributing to Bacia are not identified. The vineyards receive neither fertilizer nor irrigation.
Grapes
100% Sangiovese from the estate’s vineyards, with all fruit coming from the vintage declared on the label.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-picked into small crates and destemmed, then descend by gravity into 30-quintal wooden vats. Each parcel undergoes separate vinification. Minimal sulphur dioxide is the sole addition identified during grape reception and vinification. Cellar decisions are adapted to each wine rather than governed by a standardized protocol.
Ageing
Bacia 2019 aged for 34 months in wood and a minimum of 29 months in bottle. The ageing cellar is situated 14 m underground, providing a naturally stable temperature, and the estate generally prefers small barrels made with thick wood.
Technical data
The 2019 vintage yielded 8,537 bottles of 750 ml, 350 magnums of 1,500 ml, 35 bottles of 3,000 ml and 7 bottles of 6,000 ml.
Tasting profile
Bacia 2019 is associated with floral notes and airy grace. The wider 2019 vintage is described as cheerfully fresh and elusive, like an ordinary day gradually filled with pieces of a colourful puzzle.
Serving and pairing
Uncork about 20 minutes before tasting and use Burgundy-shaped glasses.
Vintage notes
Bacia is represented by the 2019 vintage, whose theme is L’allegria (“Cheerfulness”). The estate has produced different masse since 2016, combining its separately vinified parcels in ways that reflect the character of each year.
