Vineyard and terroir

Vigna Curva Lato Cantina is presented as a distinct 2016 Brunello bottling. The estate works with fourteen parcels, harvesting and vinifying each separately. Vineyard-specific decisions govern pruning, canopy management and harvest timing; the soils are neither fertilized nor irrigated.

Grapes

100% Sangiovese from the 2016 vintage. The wine is made exclusively from estate-grown fruit and entirely from the year declared on the label.

Vinification

The grapes are hand-picked into small crates and destemmed before falling by gravity into 30-quintal wooden vats. Each parcel is vinified separately. Minimal sulfur dioxide is the only addition made before, during or after the grapes arrive at the cellar. The winery does not follow a standardized vinification recipe, allowing the character of each parcel and vintage to determine the approach.

Ageing

The 2016 VCLC remained in wood for 43 months, followed by at least 32 months in bottle. Wood maturation takes place 14 metres underground in a naturally temperature-stable cellar, where small, thick-staved wooden barrels are generally preferred. Bottles are filled individually by gravity and mature in temperature-controlled storage.

Technical data

Production comprised 6,447 bottles of 750 mL and 770 magnums of 1,500 mL.

Serving and pairing

Uncork 20 minutes before tasting and serve in Burgundy-shaped glassware.

Vintage notes

The 2016 vintage is characterized by richness, clarity and brightness. In that year the estate produced two single-vineyard wines and two assembled expressions, beginning its practice of creating distinct masses to emphasize the differing voices of its parcels.
