Vineyard and terroir
The original Massifitti vineyard covers approximately 2 ha, faces south and lies at 300 m. Its volcanic soil is particularly rich in large, compact basaltic rocks, a feature reflected in the Massifitti name. The vineyard was planted in 2006 using clones selected from old Trebbiano di Soave vines in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture laboratories at the University of Milan and Professor Attilio Scienza. Further vineyards were subsequently established on other parts of the hills, bringing Suavia’s total Trebbiano di Soave area to approximately 6 ha.
Grapes
100% Trebbiano di Soave.
Vinification
Harvesting is manual and takes place at the beginning of September. Indigenous yeasts conduct alcoholic fermentation in steel over 15 days at 14–16 °C. Malolactic fermentation is not performed. Only one membrane filtration takes place before bottling.
Ageing
The wine matures on its fine lees in steel tanks for 15 months and then refines in bottle for 12 months.
Technical data
Bianco Veronese IGT. Alcohol: 12.50% vol. First produced in 2008.
Tasting profile
Bright straw yellow. Citrus and sweet spices unfold over mineral tones and marine nuances. The palate is clean and vertical, with lively acidity integrated into an elegant, creamy structure. The finish is long and savory.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 11–13 °C. Pair with appetizers and first courses based on vegetables or fish, as well as oysters and raw seafood.
Label / history
Massifitti grew out of Suavia’s project to recover and investigate Trebbiano di Soave, an old variety described as nearly forgotten and often misunderstood or confused. The wine is intended to express both the variety’s character and the basaltic terrain of Fittà.
