Vineyard and terroir

The two components come from Tenuta Regaleali in Palermo. Vigna Barbabietole supplies Inzolia, while Sauvignon Tasca comes from Vigna Tramontanata. The current technical data describe Barbabietole as 8.4 ha, planted in 1972, and Tramontanata as 6.76 ha, planted in 1998.

Inzolia is grown at approximately 500 m with southwestern exposure, around 3,500 vines/ha and a yield of 40 q/ha. Its soil is chalky and clay-rich. Sauvignon grows at approximately 530 m with northwestern exposure, 4,160 vines/ha and a yield of 53 q/ha. Its sandy-clay marine deposits include naturally saline layers and are particularly rich in sodium. Both vineyards use espalier training and Guyot pruning.

The extended vineyard narrative describes deep, partly calcareous, sandy-clayey soil in Barbabietole, with a weak alkaline reaction around pH 8.1, good magnesium and potassium, and low phosphorus. Tramontanata has deep, slightly calcareous soil with pH 6.9–7.1 and high organic matter and mineral content.

Grapes

Blend proportions vary by vintage. Latest published vintage (2024 technical sheet): 52% Inzolia and 48% Sauvignon Tasca. The latter is a Sauvignon Blanc selection whose adaptation to Regaleali gives it distinctive characteristics.

Vinification

The Sauvignon underwent cold maceration. Both varieties fermented in stainless steel at 16–18°C for 15 days, without malolactic fermentation. Indigenous yeasts selected and isolated in the estate vineyards have been used since 2010.

Ageing

Four to five months on the lees in stainless steel, followed by six months in bottle.

Technical data

2024: 13% alcohol; pH 3.13; total acidity 5.87 g/L; residual sugar 0.30 g/L; total extract 22.10 g/L.

Tasting profile

Fresh when young yet capable of unusual longevity, the wine balances fruit intensity with tertiary aromas as it matures.

Vintage notes

The 2024 season began with an unusually warm, rainless winter. Drought slowed early vine development and reduced the crop. Rain from April refreshed the vines and supported ripening through the hot Sicilian summer. Harvest was advanced by about ten days to preserve freshness and aromatic character. Sauvignon was picked on 10 August and Inzolia on 6 September.

Label / history

“Nozze d’oro” means golden wedding anniversary. Count Giuseppe Tasca d’Almerita created the wine to celebrate 50 years of marriage to Franca and to express the family and Regaleali estate through the union of Inzolia and Sauvignon Tasca.
