Vineyard and terroir
The estate lies in the hills between Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia, within a historic zone for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Its vineyards are arranged around the winery hill at 300 metres above sea level and vary in exposure and soil type.
Grapes
The 2022 is made from Sangiovese—locally known as Prugnolo Gentile—and complementary red grape varieties. Exact proportions are not specified.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested by hand and carefully selected in the vineyard. They were vinified in stainless-steel tanks at 26 °C, with spontaneous fermentation. The 20-day skin maceration was managed through frequent pumping over in the initial phase, délestage during the intermediate phase and gentler pumping over at the end. Malolactic fermentation was completed in steel before winter.
Ageing
The wine matured for 24 months in 50 hL oak barrels and then aged for a further six months in bottle.
Technical data
The 2022 wine has 14% alcohol.
Tasting profile
The 2022 is a vibrant ruby red. Its intense, complex bouquet opens with plum and cherry, followed by the freshness of blackcurrant and Mediterranean nuances. Nutmeg, walnut husk and clove provide the spicy register, while extended maturation contributes tobacco and roasted notes. The palate is round and sensual, supported by a dense tannic texture, with notable length and persistence.
Vintage notes
The 2022 winter was mild, with temperatures only occasionally falling below freezing, and sufficiently rainy to replenish groundwater reserves. Spring and summer were very warm and dry, with little meaningful precipitation. Harvest began during the first week of September and concluded around 20 September.
