Storia
A historic estate
Tenuta Pradase incorporates an old farmstead described as a historic 19th-century residence. The building was carefully renovated and returned to its original character. It stands beside the Pradase vineyard in the hills of Valdobbiadene.
Recovery of historic vine material
Ancient clones and native grape varieties were recovered and planted in the vineyard. These include the tonda and lunga clones of Glera together with Verdiso, Bianchetta and Perera. The parcel consequently became known as the “library,” a reference to the viticultural knowledge and cultural heritage preserved by its plant material.
The vineyard developed into a place for research and observation as well as a representative estate for Valdo Spumanti. Its combination of recovered local varieties, a favourable exposure and terrain suited to viticulture also provided the basis for a single-vineyard, vintage Metodo Classico sparkling wine.
Restoration and hospitality
The restored residence now accommodates Casa Valdo, an enotourism project initiated by the Bolla family as an extension of the Valdo Spumanti experience. Its six rooms overlook the Pradase vineyard. The estate combines viticulture with hospitality, refreshments and the presentation of local traditions.
Terroir
Tenuta Pradase is situated in Valdobbiadene, in Veneto, Italy. Its single vineyard lies at approximately 250 metres above sea level and covers one hectare beside the estate’s historic residence.
The vineyard has a notably favourable exposure, while its terrain is regarded as particularly well suited to viticulture. The parcel forms part of the Valdobbiadene and Prosecco Superiore landscape. No individual soil profile is specified, but its site character and preserved collection of old local vine material make it both a productive vineyard and a place of viticultural study.
Vinificazione
Vigna Pradase serves as a repository for recovered historic vine material. Ancient clones and native varieties were selected and planted in the parcel, including Glera tonda, Glera lunga, Verdiso, Bianchetta and Perera. This diversity underpins the vineyard’s role as a place of research, observation and continuing discovery while preserving an older local varietal tradition.
Fruit from Vigna Pradase is vinified through gentle pressing followed by a first fermentation at a controlled temperature of 15°C. The estate’s sparkling wine undergoes its second fermentation in the bottle according to the Metodo Classico and remains on its lees for a minimum of 24 months.
The production is vintage-specific and based on a single vineyard. Glera tonda and Glera lunga jointly account for at least 85% of the blend, supplemented by Verdiso, Bianchetta and Perera from the same vineyard. The combination was conceived to express the estate’s recovered historic grape material through bottle fermentation and extended lees ageing.
Filosofia
Tenuta Pradase is conceived as both a vineyard and a repository of local winegrowing culture. Its “library” identity reflects the decision to recover ancient Glera clones and native varieties and preserve them together in a representative Valdobbiadene parcel.
The estate presents this collection as a source of inspiration, research, confirmation and continuing discovery. Its approach connects the preservation of historic plant material with contemporary single-vineyard production, while the restored residence broadens that purpose through hospitality and the communication of local traditions.
