Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The 4 ha vineyard lies between two rivers at 70 m altitude. Its mineral soil contains iron and lignite.
Grapes
Merla is a local black subtype of Canaiolo. The source also names the native Baralina grape, known as Massaretta and grown exclusively in Toscana and Liguria.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in October. Maceration and fermentation take place in vats or open barriques, after which the wine is transferred by gravity to oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine ages in oak barrels for at least one year, followed by a further 6–8 months in bottle.
