Vineyard and terroir

The 2024 Sibella comes from 5 ha of vineyards across Montefalco, Gualdo Cattaneo and Todi. The vines stand at 300 m above sea level on calcareous, medium-textured soils. They are 10–15 years old, trained to spurred cordon and planted at 4,500 vines/ha, with a yield of 110 q/ha.

Grapes

Merlot, Sangiovese and Pinot Nero.

Vinification

Harvest takes place by hand in late August during the coolest early-morning hours. The fruit is chilled on arrival to limit oxidation and preserve its aromatic potential. A brief skin maceration extracts colour and aromas before gentle pressing in an oxygen-free environment. After 24 hours of static settling, selected yeasts initiate a 12-day alcoholic fermentation at low temperature in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is not carried out.

Ageing

The wine matures on its lees in stainless steel for five months. The lots are then blended, followed by two months in bottle.

Technical data

Umbria IGP Rosato 2024. Alcohol: 12.0% vol. Production: 5,000 bottles. Format: 750 mL.

Tasting profile

Cherry pink, with aromas of pomegranate, strawberry, cherry blossom and broom. The palate is fresh and savoury, leading to an enveloping, elegant finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 12–14 °C with summer salads, seafood soups and Mediterranean pasta dishes.

Vintage notes

A mild, rainy period from autumn through late spring encouraged early budding and flowering in 2024. Rain through June supported vigorous growth and replenished underground water reserves. The season remained largely free of water stress until mid-July, after which temperatures rose beyond 40 °C at times. Ripening of early white and red varieties was approximately ten days earlier than in previous years, while later red varieties remained close to recent averages. The grapes retained very good quality and health, without significant fungal-disease pressure.
