Vineyard and terroir

The 10 ha of vineyards are located across Torrececcona di Todi, Gualdo Cattaneo and Montefalco at 300 m above sea level. The soils are clay and medium-textured. The vines are 16 years old, trained to spur-pruned cordon and planted at 4,000 vines per hectare.

Grapes

Sangiovese.

Vinification

Harvest runs from the second half of September through the first week of October. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, then inoculated with selected yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats equipped with automated pumping over. Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately ten days and includes délestage. Malolactic fermentation is completed in stainless steel, and the wine is blended after alcoholic and malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The technical summary specifies stainless-steel ageing. The detailed vinification text instead describes approximately six months of maturation in wood.

Vintage notes

The 2022 season brought limited rainfall in autumn–winter and spring–summer, while temperatures generally remained above average and advanced every stage of vine development. Rain after mid-August and in early September restored balance to the berries, which had low initial yields but concentrated contents. Canopy management kept bunches shaded from sunburn without trapping excessive moisture, while soil management helped prevent cracking and water loss during summer. Ripening and harvest were generally earlier than usual. The fruit arrived in very good health, with sugar and coloring matter considered likely to be above normal.
