Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from 37 ha of vineyards in Torrececcona di Todi, Gualdo Cattaneo and Montefalco, at 400 m above sea level. The 16-year-old vines grow in medium-textured clay soil and are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Yield is 120 q/ha, with harvest in mid-September.

Grapes

Sangiovese, Merlot and other red grape varieties authorized in Umbria.

Vinification

The grapes are destemmed and crushed, then inoculated with selected yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel fermenters equipped with automated pump-over systems. Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately one week and includes délestage. Controlled malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel.

Ageing

Maturation begins in stainless steel and continues in bottle.

Tasting profile

Ruby red with purple reflections. Floral aromas are followed by pronounced red-berry fruit. The palate combines vinous notes with red fruit and red flowers. It is medium-bodied and tannic, with a mineral finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C or room temperature. Pair with meat-based first courses, red meat and roasts.

Vintage notes

A seasonally typical winter was followed by abundant spring rain and lower temperatures, prolonging the vines’ vegetative recovery. A generally hot, dry summer, including heat peaks above seasonal averages, helped the vines regain vegetative development. Late-summer rainfall replenished soil water reserves and restored balance to fruit ripening.
