Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Podere Tauleto, a south-west-facing site with clay-rich surface soil and abundant natural humus. The vines average 20 years of age, and the stated yield is 65 q/ha (6.5 t/ha).
Grapes
The latest published vintage, 2018, is 90% Sangiovese Grosso and 10% Uva Longanesi.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in special temperature-controlled fermenters that permit prolonged, continuous maceration on the skins.
Ageing
The wine matures for 24 months in new 225-litre barriques made from Allier oak, followed by six months in bottle.
Technical data
Alcohol: 14% vol. Available formats: 750 ml, 1.5 L, 3 L, 9 L and 18 L.
Tasting profile
Deep red tending toward violet. The bouquet combines red fruit, ripe cherry, delicate blackberry and raspberry with rose, balsamic and spice notes. The palate is powerful, dense and richly textured, with ample fruit and tannin held in balance.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C with substantial red-meat dishes that require long cooking.
Vintage notes
Tauleto is produced only in the finest Sangiovese vintages and is conceived for extended ageing.
