Vineyard and terroir
The wine is presented as coming from younger vineyards on Montalcino’s southwestern slope, where the sea contributes a Mediterranean influence. The technical sheet gives a broader origin, describing a blend of the three Val di Suga vineyards with an average vine age of approximately 10 years. The plots are predominantly sandy; on the southwestern slope, the sand derives from degraded Pietraforte stone.
Olive trees and Mediterranean scrub define the surrounding landscape, including myrtle, helichrysum and rosemary. Planting density is described as medium.
Vinification
The vineyard is harvested by micro-area during the early morning. The grapes are destemmed and undergo optical selection. Fermentation lasts 12 days at 26–28 °C. A cold pre-fermentation maceration is carried out for 3–4 days at 6 °C, followed by 8 days at 18–26 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures for 6 months in traditional 50-hl Slavonian oak barrels, followed by at least 3 months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Bright, lustrous ruby red. The aromatic profile combines lively, fresh red fruit with cherry, morello cherry, redcurrant and orange peel, accompanied by lightly spicy nuances. The palate is full and plush, with silky yet light, delicate tannins. Freshness and crispness carry a vibrant, succulent finish.
The intended style is young, fresh, crisp and fruit-driven. It is ready to drink, with an estimated ageing potential of 5–9 years; with evolution, orange and floral notes are expected to emerge.
Serving and pairing
Pair with cured meats, pizza and soft cheeses.
