Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards at 450 m, on clay-sandy soils. Individual varieties and vineyard sections are selected each year according to the growing season, with meticulous manual work devoted to the chosen vines.
Grapes
Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Sangiovese are drawn from the estate’s best rows. The introductory text refers to five varieties, although the detailed description names only these four.
Vinification
Following manual selection, the grapes are crushed and fermented in wooden vessels. Extraction is managed through repeated manual pump-overs and punch-downs, while particular care is taken to retain the primary fruit aromas. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood.
Ageing
The wine matures for one year in new French oak barriques.
Tasting profile
A highly complex red, opening with redcurrant, cherry, sour cherry and blueberry, followed by pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, liquorice and incense. The palate combines a dense tannic weave with softness and power. It is full and enveloping, with a long finish recalling chocolate, toasted almonds and wild-berry preserve.
Vintage notes
The 2012 season began with a cold, relatively dry winter interrupted by an exceptional February snowfall. Summer was hot and dry, although humid days in mid-August provided some relief before September rain. These conditions produced strongly concentrated grapes but limited the crop.
