OperaWine 2027 to bring together 150 wineries, with a new category for women-led estates
Wine Spectator has selected the participants for OperaWine 2027. The line-up includes 150 Italian wineries, 46 of them in the Led by Women category. The event will take place in Verona on 10 April, ahead of Vinitaly.

The new OperaWine line-up was presented in New York during Vinitaly.USA. According to WineNews, it brings together longstanding participants, recognised regional estates and a separate group of producers where women play key roles in management, production and representing the winery.1
Three groups replace a single list
The Legacy Icons category comprises 31 wineries that have participated in every edition of OperaWine. A further 73 estates make up the Classics group. The new Led by Women category has 46 participants. These designations explain how the tasting was assembled and highlight different facets of contemporary Italian winemaking.1
The forthcoming edition will feature 16 debutants and 17 estates returning after an absence. Among the newcomers, WineNews names Bruno Rocca, Elio Grasso, Luigi Einaudi, Brancaia, Ciavolich and Donatella Cinelli Colombini. Tuscany has the largest regional representation, with 48 wineries, followed by Piedmont with 27.1
From New York to Verona
The presentation of the list was included in the wine2wine Vinitaly Business Forum programme for 26 October. The organiser announced it as the closing event of the first day, featuring Wine Spectator editors Alison Napjus and Bruce Sanderson. The US venue connects the producer selection with the trade audience in one of Italy’s important export markets.2
The tasting itself is scheduled for Saturday, 10 April 2027, at Gallerie Mercatali in Verona. The date and venue are confirmed by Vinitaly’s official announcement. The list presented in the autumn will therefore form the basis of the spring gathering of producers and invited professionals.2 · 3
What participation means for readers
OperaWine is a joint tasting project by Veronafiere, Vinitaly and Wine Spectator. Its format centres on introducing selected producers and their wines. The announcement for this edition concerns the participant line-up; specific bottles and vintages should be checked against the tasting programme as it is published.3
The new category adds another perspective to wine geography: the people who lead the estates.1
