About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a biodynamic vineyard at around 250 metres above sea level. The soils are reddish-brown clay, sand and limestone, scattered with rounded pebbles.
Grapes
The text names the varieties as Carignano and Alicante Nero. Alicante Nero makes up part of the blend, and 20% of it is vinified as whole bunches.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in late August. Fermentation is spontaneous and vigorous. The whole bunches of Alicante Nero (20%) rise to the surface during it and release their aromas in gentle waves.
Ageing
The wine ages for 6 months in concrete tanks.
Tasting profile
Savoury and richly flavoured, despite its low alcohol.
Vintage notes
2021: The winter in Tuscany was mild and not particularly rainy. March was dry and quite warm, which led to early budding. Mild, rainy weather in April slowed the rapid start to the season. Heavy rainfall in April and May built up an ideal reserve of water in the soil. May was one of the coolest in recent years and significantly delayed flowering and the fruit set that followed. The summer was dry, and September was hot and dry, so the grapes ripened slowly over a long period. The wines of the year show excellent structure and balance.
Label / history
The first vintage was released in 2019. In 2021, 40,000 bottles were produced.
