About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from the Carella, Baraggiola and Valera vineyards, situated on mineral-rich hillsides at 280–310 m. Harvesting and grape selection are carried out by hand, with ripeness monitored closely.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in mid-October, destemmed and pressed. The must is macerated on the skins and undergoes malolactic fermentation. The winery’s fermentation cellars are underground within the hill.
Ageing
The wine spends an unspecified period in small barrels, followed by several months in horizontally stored bottles.
Label / history
Agamium is the Latin name for the area of Ghemme, a Piedmontese wine-growing region whose history extends to Celtic and Roman times. Evidence cited in the source suggests that inhabitants of the Novara hills knew winemaking traditions as early as the fourth to fifth millennia BC; ceramic wine bowls and cups have been found in the area.
The Arlunno family’s wine-growing roots extend back at least four centuries. The winery’s modern era began in 1969, when Carlo Arlunno expanded the vineyards, replanted historic vineyard sites and built a new winery. Its vineyards now cover more than 100 ha, of which 80% is planted with Nebbiolo.
