Vinification
The grapes are harvested and selected by hand, with ripeness carefully monitored. The wine is made by the traditional method and ferments in underground cellars in the heart of the hill.
Label / history
A new release from Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo, Vibio Crispo takes its name from Quintus Vibius Crispus, a Roman senator and politician of the first half of the 1st century, noted for his cunning and adaptability. He reportedly amassed a fortune of 300,000 sesterces. The label plays on this story by promising a thousand times greater riches in the form of three million bubbles.
Winemaking around the Novara plain has ancient roots. Archaeological finds indicate that the Celts living on the Novara hilltops, where vineyards remain today, were familiar with winemaking by the 4th–5th millennium BC; ceramic wine-drinking bowls and cups have been discovered there. The estate’s roots extend back at least four centuries. Its modern history began in 1969, when Carlo Arlunno expanded the vineyards, replanted old vineyard sites and built a new winery.
