About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from Monte della Torre, the oldest vineyard devoted to clonal selection, planted to the Cobra clone of Sagrantino. The vines are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 7,000–8,000 plants per hectare. Yield is 50 quintals per hectare. Harvest takes place during the final ten days of September and the first week of October.
Grapes
100% Sagrantino.
Ageing
The wine matures for eight years in barrique, followed by at least eight months in bottle.
Technical data
Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG. Production totals 1,712 bottles, presented in 0.75-litre format. The first vintage was 2006, and the stated ageing potential exceeds 15 years.
Tasting profile
The colour is an impenetrable carmine to ruby red with garnet reflections. The broad, powerful bouquet combines tertiary development with black- and red-berry preserves, violet, dog rose and aromatic herbs. Oak maturation contributes woody balsamic nuances, sweet spices, chocolate, caramel, incense and toasted notes. The palate is full-bodied, fresh and balanced, with assertive yet balanced tannins and a long, consistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18–20°C. Intended for important culinary occasions, it can also be enjoyed on its own as a contemplative wine.
