Grapes

100% Chiavennasca, the local name for Nebbiolo.

Vinification

The 2024 fruit was harvested on 5 October and macerated for 106 days in 50 hl wooden vats.

Ageing

The 2024 matured for six months in 50 hl vats and casks, followed by passages through cement and bottle.

Technical data

The 2024 has 12.5% alcohol. Production comprised 59,158 standard bottles, 1,397 magnums and 166 double magnums.

Tasting profile

A youthful, energetic expression of Alpine Nebbiolo, combining tonic drive with modern elegance. It was conceived as a free-spirited wine intended to show its value while young rather than through extended ageing.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 15°C in a balloon-shaped glass.

Label / history

Rosso di Valtellina was created in the torrid 2003 season. The grapes were not considered suited to long-ageing wines, yet the work required to grow them made selling them off equally unsatisfactory. The solution was a wine designed to be enjoyed in its youth. Its character is compared with a youthful Bach performing a solo-violin prelude: outwardly delicate but technically assured, original and continually surprising. At Vinitaly 2014 it reached the top of the first Italian PopWine ranking.
