About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards surround the underground cellar at Via del Buon Consiglio 4, on the boundary between Sondrio and Montagna in Valtellina at the foot of Grumello. They continue towards Sondrio above the Cà Bianca district, where the terraces are supported by dry-stone walls rising more than 7 metres. The 2018 parcel was grassed, south-facing and situated at 350–400 m. Autumn temperature swings thicken the grape skins and concentrate mineral salts while preserving the acidity required for the wine.
Grapes
100% Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo).
Vinification
The 2018 fruit was harvested on 16 October at a yield of 40 hl/ha. Maceration lasted 138 days in 50 hl wooden vats. The approach varies with the fruit, and skin contact may continue for more than 100 days when required.
Ageing
The 2018 vintage spent 42 months across 50 hl wooden vats and large casks, stainless steel and bottle. The broader élevage may include as long as 60 months in large casks, followed by further quiet maturation in Burgundy-shaped bottles before release.
Technical data
The 2018 vintage has 14% alcohol by volume. Production comprised 12,773 bottles of 750 ml, 200 magnums and 40 double magnums.
Tasting profile
A late-summer expression marked by citrus notes, freshness and a light, silky texture.
