About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The estate is located in Castagneto Carducci, in Bolgheri. Its 20 ha of vineyards are divided among three plots with different elevations and exposures. Planting density is 10,000 vines per hectare, and yields are restricted to five bunches per vine to increase aromatic concentration.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand, then sorted and destemmed. Alcoholic fermentation lasts 25 days at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine matures for around two years in French oak barriques, followed by one year in bottle.

Well-structured and balanced.
Vintage notes
In 2015, winter temperatures averaged 1–3 °C above normal, with moderately frequent heavy rainfall. Spring arrived on schedule. Summer was intensely hot, particularly in July, and rain was scarce throughout the three warm months. Downpours in August helped the grapes ripen on schedule.
Label / history
The name “Levia Gravia” comes from a poetry collection by nineteenth-century Italian poet and Nobel laureate Giosuè Carducci. The Guido Berlucchi group acquired the Caccia al Piano 1868 estate in 2003.
