Vineyard and terroir
The Caccia al Piano 1868 estate is located in Castagneto Carducci, in the heart of Bolgheri. Its 20 ha of vineyards are divided among three plots with different elevations and exposures. Planting density is 10,000 vines per hectare, and each vine is limited to five bunches.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested into 15 kg crates and taken directly to the winery. Whole Vermentino grapes are gently pressed. Sauvignon Blanc is destemmed and undergoes low-temperature maceration in an inert environment. The must ferments slowly at a controlled temperature of 15 °C.
Vintage notes
The 2022 growing season began with a mild winter, followed by cooler weather in March and April. Spring was sunny and dry, with one significant rainfall in April. Typical summer highs arrived in the second half of May, and sunny, rain-free conditions continued until mid-August. A subsequent series of showers restored the soil’s water balance, allowing slow, gradual ripening and excellent maturity.
