The grapes are grown in vineyards in Umbria at an altitude of 300 metres. Orvieto has a distinctive microclimate and a centuries-old tradition of viticulture dating back to the Etruscans.
Vinification
The wine is made using a white-wine vinification method. A brief period of skin contact is followed by alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
Ageing
The wine ages in stainless steel tanks.
Label / history
The Bigi family’s winemaking history began in 1880 with Luigi Bigi, who helped bring recognition to the Orvieto region in Italy and abroad. The estate was formerly owned by the La Trinita monastery and occupies a scenic site on a hill of volcanic origin.
The earliest written record of local vine-growing dates to 1292. In 1295, an official committee known as the “Guardians of the Vineyards” was founded to safeguard vine quality. Local winemaking developments included a network of underground galleries and a system for pressing grapes at ground level.
