About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The fruit is grown at Tenuta dei Pianali in the southern part of Tuscany’s Upper Maremma. The 30-hectare estate occupies a plateau at 100 metres above sea level, 4–5 kilometres from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Steady westerly breezes moderate temperatures, while a forest shelters the vineyards from the east. The soils are sandy and clay-rich.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand from mid-September to early October, then selected and destemmed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks at 28 °C for three to four weeks.

Ageing

The wine matures for 12 months in a combination of new and previously used French oak barrels, followed by 6–12 months in bottle.

Tasting profile

Refined and elegant, with good structure and a powerful palate.
