About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The wine comes from the new Feudi del Pisciotto vineyard, first harvested in 2007. The vines were young, yet every variety gave remarkable results. The winery lies in Sicily, 7 km from the sea, between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina. The estate has 40 ha of vineyards planted with local varieties, from Nero d'Avola to Frappato, and with international grapes such as Merlot and Cabernet.
Vinification
Vinified in stainless steel tanks. The winery has modern technology and can process up to 10,000 hectolitres. Must and wine are moved into vats by gravity, a method considered particularly suitable and efficient.
Ageing
8 months in oak barriques, then another 8 months in bottle. Both old and new cellars are used for ageing the wines at the estate.
Tasting profile
Bright acidity and a generous flavour.
Serving and pairing
A versatile food wine, especially good with sea fish such as tuna and swordfish.
Label / history
Feudi del Pisciotto is part of the Domini Castellare di Castellina group. Paolo Panerai, who oversees the company, brought the wines together in a range dedicated to some of Italy's best-known designers, each creating a label in their own style. Part of the proceeds each year goes to charity, including the restoration of works of art and historic monuments in Sicily. The "Carolina Marengo" label is by the Italian designer of that name, who is not yet thirty and has made a name with her brand Kisa, whose collections regularly appear on catwalks in London and Paris. She created two labels for Feudi del Pisciotto wines, in a delicate, lace-inspired style, including this one. Grillo is one of Sicily's least-known grape varieties.
