About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Coniale comes from its namesake vineyard in Castellina in Chianti (SI), at 350–400 m. The fine-grained soil contains abundant skeletal material. The vineyard is planted at 2,500 vines per hectare, trained to single-arched-cane Guyot and cropped at 40 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is conceived as Castellare’s comparison with international Cabernet while favouring elegance over sheer power and retaining the imprint of its terroir.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested at the end of September and vinified in stainless steel. Malolactic fermentation is completed.

Ageing

Maturation lasts 18 months in barriques, 50% of them new, followed by ten months in bottle.

Technical data

Available format: 750 ml.

Tasting profile

Intense, nearly opaque ruby red with violet reflections. The complex bouquet combines blackberry, currant, blueberry, cherry, plum and date with spice, violet, rosehip and restrained wood. The palate is warm, soft, intense and velvety, with fine, silky tannins integrated into the structure. It is balanced and persistent, ending long with a fruity aftertaste.

Serving and pairing

Pair with roasts, steaks and other red meats, game or aged cheeses.

Label / history

The first vintage was 1987.
