About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The Riserva is selected from estate-grown fruit in Castellina in Chianti (SI). The 2021 technical sheet places the vineyards at 350–400 m on limestone soil, with single-arched-cane Guyot training, 3,500 vines per hectare and a yield of 60 quintals per hectare.

Grapes

The 2021 is 95% Sangioveto and 5% Canaiolo. Only indigenous varieties are used, without Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot.

Vinification

Harvest takes place in October. The wine is vinified in stainless steel and undergoes malolactic fermentation.

Ageing

The 2021 matured for 15 months in French oak barrels of 225 and 500 litres, followed by 15 months in bottle.

Technical data

Available formats: 375 ml and 750 ml.

Tasting profile

The established style is ruby red, tending toward garnet as it ages, with an intense violet aroma and increasing aromatic refinement over time. The palate is relatively dry, harmonious and lightly tannic, becoming progressively more velvety.

The 2021 shows fragrant, fresh aromas of red fruit, liquorice and currant with a light vanilla accent, led by the typical character of Chianti Sangioveto. The palate is pleasantly sweet in impression, round, soft and savoury. Its tannins become more velvety with time, while acidity and persistence define the elegant finish.

Serving and pairing

Pair with roasted red or white meats, poultry, rabbit and assorted cheeses.

Vintage notes

The 2021 season was fairly regular. Spring rain supported canopy development and built water reserves for the drier summer. Several colder-than-average days after Easter slightly delayed bud development in the cooler parts of Chianti Classico.

Label / history

First produced in 1979, the Riserva is designed to interpret Chianti Classico through a careful selection of the estate’s best native-variety grapes.
