About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

Le Poggiole comes from selected vineyards occupying the highest parts of the estate in the hills of Acquaviva di Montepulciano. Sangiovese–Prugnolo Gentile vines have grown there for more than 30 years. Selection considers grape quality, vineyard exposure and soil type. Blue clay, characteristic of the estate’s Vino Nobile vineyards, is central to the wine’s identity.

Grapes

Sangiovese with other traditional grape varieties.

Vinification

Fermentation and maceration proceed at a controlled 24–28°C with daily pumping over and délestage. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, post-fermentation maceration continues at 29°C before racking.

Ageing

The wine matures in oak for at least 18 months, followed by six months in bottle.

Tasting profile

The nose is led by intense red fruit. The palate is full-bodied, persistent and firmly structured, with evident tannins balanced by acidity. Its long finish reprises the fruity aromas.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 18°C in large glasses. Pair with roasted or richly flavoured red meats and mature cheeses.

Label / history

This Riserva represents the estate’s history: it was the first Vino Nobile made by Fattoria del Cerro from the estate’s inaugural vintage of the denomination. The blue element on the label pays tribute to the blue clay found in its Vino Nobile vineyards.
