About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from a small, two-hectare organic plot whose vines are trained using the traditional alberello method. Their bushy growth requires wide spacing, while careful pruning restricts yields to no more than 1 kg per vine. All vineyard work is carried out by hand.
The Grattamacco estate occupies a hilltop overlooking the sea between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, at 100 metres above sea level. The local climate is dry, with warm summers. Its vineyards have an average age of around 25 years and are certified organic by ICEA.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand. The must ferments in open, truncated cone-shaped oak vats, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months in bottle.
Label / history
The Grattamacco estate was founded in 1977. It covers approximately 35 ha, comprising 14 ha of vineyards, 3 ha of olive groves, and woodland and boundary areas adjoining roughly 1,600 ha of forest.
