About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a 2 ha organic vineyard at the Grattamacco estate, on a hilltop overlooking the sea between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri, 100 m above sea level. The area has a dry climate and warm summers. The vines are trained using the traditional alberello system and the “Settonce” method, which limits yields naturally to 1 kg per vine and produces concentrated, expressive fruit. The vineyard was among the first in Bolgheri to adopt this training system, and its layout allows both varieties to be harvested on the same day.
The estate’s vineyards average around 25 years of age and are certified organic by ICEA. They occupy 14 ha of the approximately 35 ha estate, alongside 3 ha of olive groves and woodland bordering around 1,600 ha of forest.
Vinification
The grapes were picked by hand in the third week of September, with only fully ripe bunches selected. The two varieties were harvested on the same day and co-fermented with wild yeasts in open, cone-shaped oak vats.
Ageing
The wine matured for 18 months in small oak barrels and was bottled on 20 June 2024.

Complex and structured, with concentrated, expressive fruit, distinctive depth and freshness.
Vintage notes
The 2022 growing season was hot and dry. Rainfall from mid-August to early September helped the vines recover and retain freshness.
Label / history
The name “L’Alberello” refers to the traditional alberello vine-training system, which protects grapes from intense sunlight in hot regions. The Grattamacco estate was founded in 1977.
