About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from an old vineyard in the Tirso River Valley and Sinis Peninsula, only a few metres above sea level. Clay and sand soils have a substantial calcareous component. The Mediterranean climate brings mild winters, limited rainfall, and very warm, windy summers. The vines are bush-trained with support, and the yield is 65 quintals per hectare.
Grapes
Nieddera with other local indigenous varieties.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested late and pressed. Skin maceration lasts 8–10 days, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature and gentle pressing of the pomace.
Ageing
Maturation lasts 12 months between barriques and first- and second-use tonneaux, followed by at least 6 months in bottle.
Technical data
Harvest runs from late September into early October. Formats are 0.75 l, 1.5 l and 3 l.
Tasting profile
Bright garnet red with ruby reflections. The complex, refined nose brings together sour cherry, liquorice and redcurrant gelée, finishing with spice. The palate is broad, decisive and enveloping, with floral tannins and considerable persistence; descriptions refer to sanguine accents and a spicy finish.
Serving and pairing
The wine page recommends 15–16°C, while the 2024 technical sheet gives 16–18°C. Pair with roasts and game, especially stewed wild boar.
