About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie in the Bassa Valle del Tirso and Sinis, a few metres above sea level. Their alluvial, sandy soils contain a small clay component. The Mediterranean climate is marked by mild winters, limited rainfall, and very hot, windy summers. Mature vines are trained as alberello and on trellises using Guyot and spur-pruned cordon systems. Yields are 30–40 quintals per hectare (3–4 t/ha), and harvest takes place in mid-October.
Grapes
100% Vernaccia.
Vinification
The grapes undergo traditional white-wine vinification, including gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for at least 25 years in partially filled small oak and chestnut casks. Exposure to air encourages the development of the characteristic flor yeast veil responsible for the distinctive style of Vernaccia di Oristano.
