About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The Negroamaro comes from 40 hectares of vineyards on the plains of Manduria. The soils are medium-textured and the exposure is north-south. The vines are 15–20 years old, planted at 4,800 vines/ha, with yields kept to no more than 80–90 hl/ha.
Vinification
Harvest takes place in the final third of September. Vinification is in automatically controlled stainless-steel tanks at 25 °C. Fermentation lasts 15 days, including 8–10 days of maceration, and is followed by malolactic fermentation. Only inert stainless-steel vessels are used for fermentation, maturation and stabilization, which helps the wine keep a clean, natural fruit character.
Label / history
Kompa, with the stress on the final syllable, is a word from the local Salento dialect. It refers to people coming together and to a particular way of greeting one another. About 50,000 bottles are produced each year.
