About this wine
Grapes
The 2007 blend comprises 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo and Colorino. The vines are trained by Guyot and spurred-cordon systems.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled, truncated-conical steel vats. Délestage and pump-overs are performed over approximately 18–20 days.
Ageing
The wine matures for 18 months in second-use French oak barriques, followed by six months in bottle.
Vintage notes
The winter of 2007 was mild and dry, with rainfall well below average. Vegetative growth began in April amid concern about the dry conditions, but almost two weeks of rain in June restored balance. The summer was not particularly hot, although several rainy days occurred in mid-August. Fine weather prevailed from the beginning through the end of harvest.
Label / history
First produced in 1962, Castello di Monsanto Riserva is the estate’s most widely produced wine. Commercial distribution began during the 1960s, establishing it as a longstanding expression of the Chianti Classico denomination. The wine is intended both for immediate enjoyment and continued development in bottle.
