About this wine

Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from the Dispensa and Gurra vineyards at Menfi in the province of Agrigento, 70–75 metres above sea level. Dispensa has moderately calcareous soil of average depth, tending toward chalk and with almost no structure. Gurra is moderately deep, very chalky and low in limestone, likewise without structure. Planting density is 4,545 vines per hectare; Nero d’Avola yields 90 quintals per hectare and Syrah 80 quintals per hectare. The vines are trained on espaliers, using spurred-cordon and Guyot pruning.

The vineyards are managed under certified organic farming criteria and the SOStain® protocol. Cover crops of beans, vetch and spontaneous plants add organic matter and nitrogen while supporting soil microfauna. Vine health is maintained with minimal quantities of sulphur and copper. Beneficial insects, mating disruption and natural materials such as zeolite, kaolin and plant extracts are used to deter pests.

Grapes

The latest published vintage, 2025, comprises 40% Nero d’Avola, 40% Syrah and 20% other varieties. Sauvignon Blanc forms a small part of the blend.

Vinification

Harvest ran from 9 to 26 August 2025. The grapes were placed in small trolleys and chilled to approximately 15–16°C. Vinification followed a white-wine approach: after destemming, the fruit went to the press for about one hour of short maceration, extracting the desired pale colour from the skins.

The resulting must was held at approximately 8–9°C for 36 hours of static settling. The clear fraction was then racked and fermented at approximately 14–16°C for 8–10 days in 210/264 hl stainless-steel tanks. The wine was racked after about five days and again at the end of fermentation, then lightly macro-oxygenated. Contact with the finest lees and weekly stirring helped fix anthocyanins and aromas while adding volume on the palate. The final stages were blending and bottling.

Ageing

Maturation took place in stainless steel. Bottling was scheduled for December 2025.

Technical data

Sicilia DOC. Alcohol is 12.50% vol., total acidity 6.55 g/L and pH 3.10. Available formats are 0.75 L, 1.5 L and 3 L. The 0.75 L bottle weighs 500 g and uses a STELVIN® screw cap. The first vintage was 2007. The wine is certified organic and SOStain®.

Tasting profile

The 2025 wine is pearl pink, recalling the inside of an oyster, and is slightly deeper in colour than recent vintages. Its aromatic profile combines petit fours, redcurrant and pomegranate with deeper notes of plum, pineapple, green tea, rosehip and wild apple. The palate is very smooth, with a light touch of acidity and an easy, refreshing finish that invites another sip.

Serving and pairing

Designed to be enjoyed immediately for maximum freshness. It works as an aperitif with toasted almonds, high-quality potato chips, Nocellara del Belice olives or Sicilian street food, and also accompanies fried fish and seafood.

Vintage notes

Menfi’s 2025 harvest was good overall and particularly successful in the higher vineyards of Ulmo, Monte Cirami and Maroccoli. Cool soils, woodland and Mediterranean scrub supported complete, harmonious ripening and a balance between quality and quantity. Sauvignon Blanc performed especially well and contributes in a smaller measure to Rosé.

Label / history

The redesigned label follows the visual direction of La Segreta, bringing the wine’s name and illustration to the foreground. It depicts Damask roses, traditionally called “painters’ roses,” an old spontaneous variety prized for its quality and fragrance—qualities echoed in the intended character of the wine.
