About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit grows on the hills of Colli Orientali at a modest elevation. A mountain range shelters the vineyards from cold northern winds. The soils comprise alternating layers of limestone-rich clay marl and sandstone. The estate increased planting density severalfold and established a target weight for each bunch.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand late enough to soften the variety’s typical green notes. They are carefully selected, sorted and destemmed before a gentle, extended pressing, with dry ice cooling used to preserve their aromatic qualities. Vinification takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless-steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for eight months in second-fill French oak barrels.
Vintage notes
The 2020 winter in Friuli-Venezia Giulia was very mild, without sharp temperature changes. Mild conditions in March led towards early budbreak, while fairly dry weather in April and May supported successful flowering. June was the wettest month of the summer, although steady air movement kept the vines healthy. Thereafter, rainy periods alternated regularly with dry spells that were not excessively hot, allowing the grapes to retain an ideal balance of sugar and acidity as they ripened.
Label / history
Dorigo was founded in 1966 following the acquisition of two previously little-known vineyards: Ronc di Juri in Buttrio and Montsclapade in Premariacco. The new owners combined the vineyards’ traditions and history with modern technology, investing in vineyard machinery, new barriques for fermentation and reed mats for drying grapes.
