About this wine
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow on gently elevated hills in Colli Orientali. The soils alternate between sandstone and marl, a limestone-rich clay. A mountain ridge shelters the vineyards from cold northern winds. Dorigo introduced higher planting densities and mechanised vineyard work as part of its redevelopment of the estate.
Vinification
The grapes were harvested in mid-September. Dorigo harvests by hand and subjects the bunches to strict selection. After sorting and destemming, fermentation takes place in stainless-steel tanks at low, controlled temperatures. The estate uses cryoextraction during pressing to preserve the grapes’ aromas. Malolactic fermentation is completed before ageing.
Ageing
The wine matures for 10 months in French oak barrels, softening the variety’s natural roughness.
Tasting profile
The wine combines softness and concentration with a distinctive mineral aroma and character.
Vintage notes
The 2020 winter in Friuli-Venezia Giulia was very mild, without sudden temperature changes. Mild conditions in March indicated early budbreak, while fairly dry weather in April and May supported good flowering. June was the wettest summer month, but steady airflow helped maintain healthy vines. Later, rainy spells alternated regularly with dry periods that were not excessively hot, allowing the grapes to retain an ideal balance between sugar and acidity.
Label / history
Dorigo’s history began in 1966, when the family acquired the previously little-known Ronc di Juri and Montsclapade vineyards with the aim of reviving their potential. After introducing changes in the vineyards, the family later completely redesigned the winemaking process.
